Potentiometer

Resistor is an electrical component that reduces the electric current. It opposes the flow of either direct or alternating current, employed to protect, operate, or control the circuit.

The resistor’s ability to reduce the current is called resistance and is measured in units of ohms (symbol: Ω). If we make an analogy to water flow through pipes, the resistor is a thin pipe that reduces the water flow.

A potentiometer is a manually adjustable, variable resistor with three terminals. Two terminals are connected to a resistive element, the third terminal is connected to an adjustable wiper. The position of the wiper determines the output voltage.
